Dual language booksThe benefits of dual language books are immense. They are a means of validating the L1 and the culture of the students in our classrooms. They are a great way to introduce the different L1s in a classroom and facilitate the drawing of links between languages and cultures. The use of dual language books permits students to teach their classmates about other languages and cultures.
The Family Treasures and Grandma's Soup website outlines a dual language book project developed with students and families attending the Almadina Language Heritage School in Calgary. It provides some excellent background information and step-by-step procedure for developing dual language books with your students.
